Ginger plant has long been known as a traditional medicine and cooking spices. It was a bit spicy and can give warm effect to the body. Baby gingers are juicy and plump with a gentle taste. They are usually preserved to be pickles in vinegar as a snack or simply cooked as an ingredient in many serving dishes. They can also be heated in boiling water to make tea, with honey or lemon fruit may be added. Ginger can also be made into candy.
Based on recent research, ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) can relieve muscle pain caused by sports. It relates to one of the benefits of ginger that is repeatedly discussed. That benefit is the ability of ginger to increase endurance and prevent inflammation. The benefits of ginger to overcome muscle pain have not been widely studied. Scientists said that a warm sensation from ginger can soothe ill effects.
The research team led by Patric O’Connor made two researches to investigate the effectiveness of ginger for 11 days. In those researchers, they use raw ginger and ginger that is heated. The respondents in this study were divided into two groups, namely that given a capsule containing raw or heated ginger and the rest received placebo capsules. Every day they have to drink the supplement.
Every day, the respondents were asked to do high impact sports that are at risk of suffering from muscle pain in the arm. Apparently, a group that consumed ginger supplements has muscle pain problem that was reduced by 25 percent compared with those that are not taking ginger.
Ginger in the form of supplements may not have consumed by many people. However, ginger often consume in the form of hot drinks. This drink is believed to make our body fit when we are depressed, catching colds, and doing exhausting physical activity. In China’s traditional recipes, ginger is believed to strengthen the body while healing.
